The ah07lenna.gif (2110 bytes)toms of an inert gas are in equilibrium by means of an attracting van der Waals force and a repelling force as result of overlapping electron orbits. Together the two forces form the so-called Lennard-Jones potential, which is in fact a curve of thirteenth degree.
